Delta Airlines signs up for 20 Airbus A350-1000s
Category:NewsLeading US carrier Delta Airlines has signed an order for 20 Airbus A350-1000 airliners to meet its future wide-body needs.Delta was the first US airline to operate the A350-900 but the order is the first for the longer -1000 variant from the Atlanta-based carrier which will open up new opportunities for the airline with its long range and fuel efficiency.The deal means Delta Airlines will operate all Airbus models that are currently in production from the A220 to the A350.“We are thankful for Delta’s continued confidence in Airbus’ solutions to meet its fleet needs,” said Christian Scherer, Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Aircraft business, Airbus. “Delta was the first U.S. airline to operate the A350-900, and is doing so with great success. Delta now welcomes the A350-1000, which will open even more opportunities for the airline and its customers. We are proud that our aircraft serve the entirety of Delta’s impressive global network as this stellar airline takes fleet efficiency to the next level.”
With wings and engines built in the UK, the deal is a further boost to the UK economy and helps cement Airbus’ position as the world’s leading commercial aircraft supplier.
The A350 is also the most modern and efficient wide-body airliner currently available and the long-range leader in its class. It can operate efficiently on long-haul routes up to 9,700nm or high-density short-haul routes with seating for up to 410 people.
It has attracted orders for over 1,200 aircraft from 58 customers worldwide.
